350 new backpacks were distributed to ACLAMO for children in need

Citizens Bank volunteers made a special donation last week as part of its annual Gear for Grades initiative, delivering 350 new backpacks to ACLAMO Family Centers in Norristown. During the event, representatives from ACLAMO accepted the donated school supplies and distributed them to families who were lined up outside the facility since early this morning.

The new, logo-free backpacks were pre-stuffed with school supplies such as pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, plastic rulers, erasers, safety scissors and spiral notebooks.

The 350 backpacks, made possible through a donation from the Citizens Bank Foundation, are a portion of the 22,000 backpacks that will be distributed to local children in need across Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware before the start of the school year.  Bank colleagues stuffed the backpacks with bank-donated school supplies.

Gear for Grades is a part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program for contributing to the economic vitality of communities. This is the 10th year Citizens Bank has conducted the program in the Philadelphia area.

The goal is to encourage a positive attitude toward school by helping each student start the year with the supplies necessary to achieve success.

This year, Gear for Grades will provide more than 50,000 backpacks to children in need across the bank’s 12-state footprint.
